Intro to Mah-Jongg

In Person | Four-Week Course | Maximum 12 Students
Learn the fundamentals of American mah-jongg in this beginner-friendly four-week course. An experienced instructor will introduce the tiles, rules, hand selection, scoring, and basic strategies you need to begin playing with confidence. No prior experience is necessary.
The course will also explore the history of mah-jongg, including its origins in China and its distinctive place in American Jewish culture and community life.
Course Schedule
Classes 1 & 2: Learn the Game
Introduction to the tiles, rules, hand selection, scoring, and basic strategies, along with an overview of the history and cultural significance of mah-jongg.
Class 3: Guided Play
Put what you’ve learned into practice through supervised games with guidance from the instructor.
Class 4: Independent Play
Play independently while the instructor is available to answer questions, clarify rules, and offer advice.
