“Vanished Streets: Unseen Photographs of Jewish London” with Aviva Dautch and Rachel Lichtenstein

In conjunction with an exhibit of Shloimy Alman’s photographs, currently on view at the Yiddish Book Center, London-based Rachel Lichtenstein and Aviva Dautch will share the story behind these “unseen” photographs and the vanishing streets of East London. When Shloimy Alman fell in love with the East London area, he knew he had to document what he saw. “I am not a photographer. I make no claim. I started this to be able to show my children Jewish life in England.”
 
Aviva Dautch is an arts journalist and the director and publisher of Jewish Renaissance, a quarterly Jewish arts magazine. She has lectured on modern Jewish culture at the University of Roehampton, the London School of Jewish Studies, and JW3. 
 
Rachel Lichtenstein is a British artist, writer, and curator who is internationally known for her books, multimedia projects, and artworks that examine place, memory, and Jewish identity. She has curated and written a catalog about Shloimy Alman’s work.
